Our outreach work aims to influence the people who can bring about the change we need. We direct our outreach in a number of different ways:
Political advocacy
Members of the PIRC team work with members of parliament and parliamentary committees to encourage the adoption of specific policies, and have influenced obvious and welcome changes in mainstream environmental policy. Most visibly, the Liberal Democrat policy document 'Zero Carbon Britain - Taking a global lead' was strongly influenced by the CAT/PIRC zerocarbonbritain project.
We have worked with partner organisations to coordinate parliamentary receptions, presented evidence to the Environmental Audit Committee, made written submissions to parliamentary committees, including the Joint Committee on the Draft Climate Change Bill, and provided consultation for the EFRA Select Committee.
We are a results-oriented non-partisan organisation, and have met with politicians from across the political spectrum to discuss our work and how it can be enacted into policy.
Briefing Sheets
As a development of our advocacy activities, we are producing condensed briefings of our work for use by politicians and policymakers, which get across key facts, figures and solutions on a side of A4. As we write and distribute these briefing sheets they will be made available through the PIRC website.
Presentations
We have developed a program of engaging and visually appealing presentations about the key areas of our work – Contraction and Convergence, Climate Change Science and Feedbacks, Personal Carbon Trading, Peak Oil and New Economic Models.
Our presentations program allows us to make links with a wide variety of different groups, organisations and businesses, widen the audience for our work, and engage in the kind of debate which refines our work and spreads the ideas and solutions we advocate.
See our Talks & Training page for more details.
